How to read the result.
The calculator multiplies five things you can estimate from a normal week: how many calls come in, how many go unanswered, how many of those callers never try again, how many enquiries you usually turn into jobs, and what an average job is worth. The result is the revenue that leaves with the callers you never spoke to.
Treat it as a range, not a fact. If you do not know how many calls go unanswered, your phone provider or your phone system usually has a report. If you do not know how many callers never call back, count the voicemails you returned last week and how many of those people you actually reached.
The number is usually larger than owners expect, because a missed call is invisible. Nobody complains about it. The customer simply calls the next company, and the only trace is a voicemail that was never left.
It also understates the cost when the missed calls arrive after hours or during an emergency, because those are the jobs with the highest value and the least patience.
What to do about it.
